Workers in developing countries can more than double their annual salary if they become fluent in English. OSF helps our students learn English language speaking, reading, and writing skills by providing our technology centers with Rosetta Stone software and/or hiring English teachers.
Any company in the developing world that wishes to compete on the global stage needs to hire competent web designers. Many of OSF's technology centers provide students with training in web design, a critical jobs skill that is in high-demand across multiple industries.
Computer programming, also known as coding, is another job skill that is in high-demand across multiple industries in the international market. OSF provides our students with training in HTML and C++, skills that will help them enter an industry with high job security.
Robotics is the industry of the future, and OSF's students have excelled at learning elements of computer science and basic engineering. Our students have created some truly remarkable robotics projects: a fully functional prosthetic arm; an irrigation system; are just few examples.
OSF works with students to teach them the skills they need to obtain jobs and become successful and financially independent. Helping students develop the ability to find employment and become financially independent is a crucial step in our work to help break the cycle of exploitation, abuse, and poverty.
Our 3-D printing initiative offers students the opportunity to design objects on the computer and then watch them come to life. Our students want to print their own furniture, create objects to help people with physical disabilities. These kids dream big!
Our life-skills initiative is vital for children that grow up in institutions, it is often difficult for them to obtain the skills they will need to survive. Our program teaches students how to open a bank account, budget, go to the doctor, rent an apartment, and much more.
OSF helps students that have excelled in our programs find job placement - a critical key in helping end the cycle of poverty and abuse. We partner with several companies to help our students find employment. If you or your business would like participate in this program, please contact karla@osf.org for more information.
Many OSF students have the desire to be entrepreneurs. See how we help students who pitch exceptional business proposals. We offer microloans to students who pitch with exceptional business proposals. One student's OSF funded business is so successful that he has opened franchises in multiple villages in Ethiopia.
OSF introduces students to various forms of arts such as photography, ballet, painting, dance and more. Learn more about the "If These Walls Could Talk" initiative by artist Justin Garcia.
OSF works alongside We Make Movies to teach students how to film and edit movies.

One day an old man was walking along the beach. It was low tide, and the sand was littered with thousands of stranded starfish that the water had carried in and then left behind.
The man began walking very carefully so as not to step on any of the beautiful creatures. Since the starfish still seemed to be alive, he considered picking some of them up and putting them back in the water.
The man knew the starfish would die if left on the beach's dry sand but he reasoned that he could not possibly help them all, so he chose to do nothing and continued walking
Soon afterward, the man came upon a small child on the beach who was frantically throwing one starfish after another back into the sea.
The old man stopped and asked the child, "What are you doing?"
"I'm saving the starfish." the child replied.
"Why waste your time? There are so many, you can't save them all, so why does it matter?" asked the man.
Without hesitation, the child picked up another starfish and tossed the starfish back into the water.
"It matters to this one." the child said.
